Classic Camera Repair Forum on RFF

Thanks for picking it up. I was on that forum from the start. I was asked at one point several years ago by the admin if I would take it over but just couldn't do it at the time.

This is great news.

Good work so far, Stephan. But I can't find any way to access the archive except through your link in the original post. Is there supposed to be a direct link like the ones that run down the left side of the Home page?

Hi Stephen,
despite the issues migrating the information over, it is brilliant to hear you have been able to preserve the old postings from the CCRF, because there is a lot of really helpful information in the archives. Owner-repairers around the world, including myself, are indebted. This can only add to the site and as a self confessed tinkerer, I'm delighted to see it incorporated at RFF.
Cheers,
Brett

Second that, the loss of the information would be missed by many both on and off the RFF!

Is there any chance of getting the old URL so there could be a permanent forward, and the data might grow on the RFF?

No, the old domain is still being used.

It remains to be seen if we are able to import the old info into our software. Until that is known for sure, no link on the side menu.

As for as searches, eventually Google will index the CCR as part of RFF.

A lot of good information on that site. Hope it continues on with RFF..

I wonder if it would be possible to start out by just moving your existing DIYS and Camera Care/repair headings out of "miscellaneous topics" and creating a new "Classic Camera Repair Forum" category that includes those existing threads, and then just start going forward from there? What made CCRF what it was, was the fact that it was where everybody went with questions, and where people with answers were lurking.... that part we can recreate almost immediately, especially if KYM could replace the current 404 page with a link to the new category page at RFF. I think that would do a lot to get the forum back on its feet, and access to the old messages could be added whenever and in whatever form it can be set up.

KYM has replaced the 404 page, directing to RFF.

Will look at forum organization once we are sure what importation is possible from the old forum.

I tend to agree with Sevo that the actual import shouldn't be too difficult, with a possible stumbling block of matching post authors with RFF accounts if vB can't handle 'accountless' posts (other than maybe forcing them to 'guest' or whatever). Perhaps it would be worth going through a preparatory phase of trying to get as many as possible CCR users registered here. Even if the import doesn't work out and it remains a read only archive, there is good reason for the CCR users to register here as a place to continue the owner/repairer thing.

Might also want to build a list of those that are on both, but have different names (I'm Nomad without the Z on CCR). Anyone that's doing the import/translation can make use of that come the time.

I am sooo glad CCR can live on. I'm even happier that it now lives with RFF.

Thank you, thank you, thank you Stephen!
