What about bringing my CLE (and lenses) with me on a sailing boat? Would you take a chance? Water, sun, salt and sand... Really, I don't know. Some advice would be very appreciated.

I've brought my leica's at the beach and on top of mountains, no problem at all if you have a water proof (or sort of) carrying case, and are careful.
But on a boat, if the sea is big and wind is up, I wouldn't risk it. The CLE is too good a camera (and sadly there are no replacement parts left..)

Took my M6 on a sailing boat, took her canooeing. No probs. It's what you're willing to do. If you're worried about salt and sand on your lens, put a filter on maybe. Now the problem would be if it "dives"... It's always a risk

The thought of taking a camera on a boat of any type (other than a cruise ship) scares me...I would take something I wouldn't worry about losing and Yes, I know the Titanic was a cruise ship...

I routinely bring cameras out sailing. When not in my hand though it is stashed in it's bag. Always transported to and from the boat(a long dinghy ride) in a dry bag w/ some air in it so it will float if it happened to make it overboard. I try and keep the camera bag in a dry bag as much as possible if not in use to keep out damp salt air. And then there is the Nikonos...

Isn't this why they make waterproof cameras? Why take a chance, especially with salt water?

A friend of mine carried his Olympus OM10 in a sailing boat for a half day trip close to the shore (South Atlantic), looking for whales near Puerto Madryn.
The camera was in it´s 👎ever ready case, and as far as he can recall, no sea water got into the camera, however, the camera failed to work the same day after shooting a 36 exp. roll.
All electrical contacts inside the camera, either printed circuit or finger springs were corroded beyond repair.
IIWY, I´ll pick another camera. A purely mechanical one (no electronics of any kind inside) will withstand better the harsh environment of a sailing boat, or better a simple splashproof P&S.
