Joe, you mentioned that your CLE was a rough user camera but that one doesn't look rough at all!

if you look carefully, the strap lug not being used is bent flat like it took a hit.
maybe so not so rough as some...

hope you knew that already when buying the camera. my M3 had taken similar small nick to other ear, but of course eBay seller had taken all pics from the angle where this was not shown.. I would have complained but I had to travel soon with the camera, so there was no point. anyway, its good user M3, no plans to part from it.

My only fear with the CLE is the lack of parts, plus I'm kind of a manual old fart these days. You could fit that kit and a 90/4 in a small Leica hard case and call it done.
Very cool.
Come on guys, some me some more CLE Porn!

I have so much "crap" stored it wouldnt all fit on one photo, but I will dig some things out during the day and post for you.
Your grip looks almost factory made for your CLE.

i did. there were no surprises and i paid so little for it that it was worth the risk.
my meter started going wonky again just recently and before sending it off for a proper cla...i tried flooding the shutter speed dial (in and out) with contact cleaner and then turning the dial for awhile, seems to have worked really well for now.

the cle was/is a dream kit of sorts, great size, well built and the lenses are truly superb. i might get yet another 90/4 rokkor just to have the kit complete. i was thinking that (as the money becomes available) i might get another body or 2 and have back ups and a spare parts bin to boot.

stored? i thought you were using all that gear
the grip is a near perfect fit. it only needs a bit of shaving in the film release button area to allow easier access. i like how the camera just seems to nestle in my hand with it.

Some of the family album for you Joe!
Photo 1 - My trusty user CLE with Luigi half case (note without the padded grip).
Also maybe a new 40mm nose job, Nokton, Sonnar, Rokkor or Summicron? Choose your poison!
Photo 2 - Something new or something blue? A new CLE awaiting its first film, a virgin shoulder case never been with a camera, and a new baby 28mm Rokkor that hasn't reached the white spotted teen phase. And my trusty CLE again but with the CLE Autoflash (which is the best balanced rangefinder flash I have ever tried, compact and TTL as well with built in 28mm diffuser)
Photo 3 - To cover Bill's concerns it pays to have a health plan. New CLE Covers, Rangefinder, Shutter, Circuit Board, Switches, and Knobs.

Well, let's see... CLE portraits...
The aluminium grip wasn't really a succes so I got an M grip instead. Took some hacking but works great. Especially with the big 50/1,2 lens. That 50 is too much for critical focus though.
The other two are with the Canon 25mm. Love that combo. THe whole vf fielsd almost covers the 25.

CLEs are just beautiful, in particular with the 40mm Rokkor. Unfortunately they were out of my reach (pricewise) for a long time and today with the spares situation, I do not feel it makes sense for me to buy into it. Enjoy yours as long as you manage to run them.
If it is any consolidation, I run a Contax G1 and expect to end up in a similar situation in a few years time. Until then I will continue to enjoy mine and cross that bridge when I come to it.

gentlemen, some very nice gear!!
many thanks joel, for the look into your gear cupboard.
at one time, i had 2 complete cle systems, along with the flash and bag also. one i had bought brand new at ken hansen in new york and the other from a local user who kept his gear like new.
i foolishly sold it all and tried the mamiya 6 and medium format. it's one of the regrets of my sales history.

there is always talk about the electronics but these little guys are still running strong after more than twenty years of service.

You always hope to be one of the lucky ones whose toy develops problems last. Some people are just lucky, in particular if electronics is involved. It was when I was young, it was one of my dreams to own a CLE.

Something new or something blue? A new CLE awaiting its first film
With all the doom and gloom threads on the net about the demise of film I made Joel and offer for his new in box CLE for a couple of hundred dollars since if you believe the net gossip you wont get any film soon, but he declined. Try do someone a favour and they reject you! LOL
