Hi there,

the front element of my 2/40 CLE Rokkor got loose - if you shake the lens, it rattles. Is there an easy way to tighten it? There must be some kind of retaining ring, but that seems to be hidden behind the plastic front ring. Anything I can do?

Thanks
Peter

Are you sure its the front element that is loose? More often its the aperture ring that loosens. The front element is tightened by tiny slots on either side of the metal ring that surrounds it but you do need to remove the front plastic nameplate ring in the same manner first. Without the right tool however anyone that has attempted this at home has marked or butchered that plastic ring. I would suggest a qualified repairman to ensure everything is kept clean.

Thank you - this is what I had feared. It's definitely not the aperture ring (you can feel the front element move), and I'm not a very skilled craftsman, nor do I have the right tools to remove the front nameplate ring without damage, so this calls for an expert. By the way, can anybody tell what kind of tool is actually used for the removal of such a nameplate ring?
