Hello everyone,

I've been trying to clean the shutter blades on my GS using lighter fluid and rubbing alchohol for 4 days, but the problem still persisted, actually the blade opened all the way at one time, but then the problem returned after 1/2 roll of film.

The problem: the shutter would open only 2/3. Anyone use any other cleaning fluid/technique that works better than the chemical that I used ??? All the helps are greatly appreciated!

To do the job properly you reaaly need to strip the shutter down in order to get rid of all the dried out grease / grot that has built up over time. This is not a job for the faint of heart or mechanically inept.

I would suggest contacting Greyhoundman here to see if he will do it for you - he does great work at realistic prices.

I am assuming that is a Yashica GS...Just stripped a GSN down completely I can say that there is no way I would do a total shutter teardown on one to clean it...I was surprised at a few extra parts I did not count on in there. I am sure you have some excess grease you cant get to that is still sticking the blades together...on my GSN there was NO grease anywhere in the whole camera.

Thanks everyone... Greyhoundman just showed me some tips, will try it tonight .... darn! these electros are addictive ... spent so little money and so much time on them !!!!! :D
