I was lucky enough to find this folder at a yard sale recently. It needs a CLA but it is in otherwise decent shape. I am looking for some advice on cosmetic repairs. It has the original leatherette which I want to keep. What is the best way to clean it and make it "shine" (it's a little dull)? And regarding the chipping paint, any way to touch it up so it sticks? Right now the old paint chips at the lightest scratch with a fingernail.

Black paint from Michaels (modelling paint). Gloss available.
Looks like Nettar to me. Biggest challenge is in same paint falling inside and getting on the film.

Agree, it looks like a prewar Nettar (6x9) -- I have the same vintage Nettar in 6x6. Simple but solid cameras. Mine has far worse paint chipping than yours, and I have contemplated getting some gloss black model paint and touching it up -- though blending in the new paint may be tricky to avoid it looking like a bad job. From what I can tell, the outer body (other than the front lens door) is aluminum. At the very least, be sure the surfaces are quite clean -- I'd suggest using a soft cloth or maybe a cotton swab with solvent. Be careful to keep it away from the leatherette, or you may dissolve the glue that holds the leatherette down.

Having considered repainting Mess Ikonta 524/16 which has lost 90% of black paint outside and also inside, after reading on painting aluminum I have concluded doing it wrong way can cause more issues than help.
On mine large patches of paint fell off inside surface of film door and film compartments. Having used it under harsh midday sun (albeit in half-case) it fogged film only around edge, not protruding into frame.

thanks all for the responses. It's off to be CLA'ed first. Then I will be anxious to run some film through it so the cosmetic work will have to wait. I have seen some nice colour shots on flickr taken with the same kit. I am excited to shoot some E6.
