I think there is a kind of waxy paint stick that you can buy from auto parts store - its used for the highlighting the embossed markings on tyres and such; for those that are turned on by such things. I believe this is the ants pants for cameras as it can be rubbed into the engraved groves and then the excess is burnished off with a rag.
If it's paint, not encaustic (wax based), it might. I just don't like using chemicals on a camera when i don't know what they will do to it. I try to stick to stuff I know is harmless.
I'm fairly certain that a 50/50 bleach solution is way too strong for something like this. It could literally bleach out any surrounding color. I'd stay away from bleach and start with a degreasing cleaner as I mentioned.
