Dumb question, I just got ahold of a millennium nikkor lens and I'm just curious, will the close up lens attachment that was ment for the classic 50mm f1.4, work on the 2000 edition?

Not a dumb question. The original Nikkor-SC 5cm f/1.4 and newer Millennium-Nikkor both have a 43mm thread, but in the 50's these threads had a 0.5mm pitch. The Millennium lens, as a modern lens, has an updated 0.75mm thread pitch. You can see the thread pitches for all the S-mount Nikkors here.

This doesn't mean they're completely incompatible. For example, Goliathus (site in Korean, but he is a forum member) has used the close-up set on the Millennium-Nikkor. I have a modern B+W filter for my Millennium-Nikkor which seems to fit fine on my old 3.5cm f/2.5 - sometimes these tolerances are not exact enough to prevent mounting. Just keep in mind you may risk causing some damage to the threads on either the lens or filter by frequently attaching it.

Edit: I'm surprised no one else has weighed in, I expected someone would probably tell you not to do this. Anyone?
