Contameter and Contatest! And there are numbers that made me even more confused:bang:

I want to buy one that would fit the iiia but lost and couldn't find clear info on the web!
Which lenses are compatible with those tools, what is the right model number of the tool and which is more easier or practical than the other

From what I understood:
Contatest would work like the summicron DR once the tool or goggle is attached the lens will focus in a range of 20 to 40 or so "but which lens?" and am I right?!

Contameter is fixed once you attach the proxar to a certain distance and have to move the camera back and forth until the range finder align. Is it only with the 50 mm sonnar 1.5? Or other lenses would work too?

I love the contax each time I learn something new about it.

Mohammed

I have The Contax Way, and I'll read up and see what I can learn. I agree that the IIIa is very cool!
Back to you tomorrow.

The Contameter is an auxiliary rangefinder with close up range and scales that cover the three Proxars on a normal lens (40-50mm as printed on mine, not that I have ever heard of a Contax 40mm - it may have been sold with other Zeiss Ikon cameras as well). Uncoupled, i.e. you'll have to transfer the displayed value to the on-camera distance scale.

The Contatest is supposed to modify the on-camera rangefinder to match the Proxars - but I've never had a complete and working one. These seem to need the matched Proxar supplied with them.

Reading up on the matter, mine is the later all-integrated Contameter in four piece kit - there also was an earlier one as a seven-piece kit with extra auxiliary lenses to put in front of a regular auxiliary rangefinder, which was much less elegant to use.

Dear Sevo,
I'm a bit familiar with how it works "a bit" and thank you for the much appreciated information. However, still those numbers are confusing. Some made for the I and II, some made for II...etc!

I bought the contatest and it's for the iia and iiia. I hope I'll figure it out when its arrive.

Anyone have a link to the instructions? I can't seem to find any! It comes with instruction but unfortunately a German one.

Mohammed

The instruction that came with it has a photo on mounting the contatest to the body while the lens is already mounted. Straight forward stuff and it's easy to use "thank you Zeiss".

I'll post a photo of it mounted and unmounted.
I'll run a test roll and report back.

Mohammed
