While trying to buy this battery in Tokyo, I was told that the CN 1/3N 3V battery type is discontinued. I asked in several shops, they were all out of stock ... Fiddling with 4 small SR44 is of course possible but nothing I would like to in darkness or wearing gloves. Are there any alternatives, adapter maybe ?

I think they are CR 1/3N batteries, just for the record. I've not heard about them being discontinued. All the online retailers still appear to have them in stock. I usually get the Energizer 2L76 online in packs of 10 or so. Same battery, different number.

Sanyo, the Japanese manufacturer of CR 1/3N, stopped supplying it last year, so it's correct to say it's been discontinued in Japan.

However, you can still order Duracell DL1/3N from mail order stores overseas. I recently ordered a batch from B&H Photo.

CR 1/3N (as distinct from the OP's CN 1/3N designation) batteries are certainly in plentiful supply. The CR 1/3N batteries are used in MP and M7 cameras. It does seem that Sanyo are currently not supplying them which is a pity. They are very good and luckily I have a bulk purchase that'll last me for a while. Varta are very good too but they are expensive. However there's a dealer on eBay selling bulk Vartas at $1.50 each which is a steal. Buy a few; they have a very long shelf life.

i thought i was going crazy!

i can't seem to find them anywhere in Japan, check amazon, rakuten, all the electronic shops..... nothing!

so is there a way to buy them in japan?

You could always try other brands that have a different code but are the same battery. Energizer 2L76, etc. I don't know all the equivalent identifiers, but you can find it on the internet.

If nobody carries any of these, I guess it's time for mail order.
