Cardiff, nice, I speak english, safer to understand wahat people say :D

No R2D2, there is not anymore mine working in france, only some uranium mine that are ready to star again, in case we could not anymore import uranium ;)

Maybe this will interest you, one of my teacher is in this project with some photographers, photographinh coal mines and people working/living at a coal mine all around the world (sorry for not being able to provide any locations)

The last Sarre coal mine is to close in two years, and is near Saarluis, right next to the French border.

Wales is probably your best bet in the UK although there may be some small mines in the south.
Cornwall has old tin mines which extended under the sea but which all closed in the 19th C.

My plan is to go underground to see peolple working and upthere to see people living
Don't forget to picture living conditions on the surface: There are quite a few mines in the Sarre region where the ground is moving because of collapsing undergeround cavities. You might be able to find quite a few houses with spectacular cracks, and people entering into lawsuits against mining companies because of this.

Haha! I'm not telling you! You've already got a super-cool project shooting fishermen at sea! C'mon now!

Naah, but seriously, the only coalmines I know is when I read about them crushing down killing people. Good idea though (you seem full of them). Good luck, must be very difficult shooting in that light.

(Oh yeah, I was in inactive coalmine somewhere in Catalunia a few weeks ago, but that's more like a museum. Took some shots with a Rolleiflex).

Yes, low light, will have to learn flash photography (I plan to buy a pentax 67 with leaf shutter lenses)

Looked at rena effendi portfolio on siberian mines, she used flash quite well :)

I heard it's not possible to shoot with a flash in a mine tho ... because of the batteries etc (so you probably aren't allowed to use a camera with batteries either)
It wouldn't be safe (for as far as I've heard, I might be wrong tho)

well, they use trucks (avec des système antideflagration certes) and lamps :D

but that is a question that should be asked

If it is allowed, I don't care to carry it :D
