Coding older Leica M lenses

I bought some (probably not the same brand) years ago from my 2006 50 Summicron & 90 Elmarit. Worked as advertised. No focus, mounting, or locking problems. Hardest part was painting the indents to look nice. However my M8, and then M9, had no problem reading the lens length.

I also have one that is a LT@M to M mount that I coded for a Canon 35mm /2

If your CV lens has the gutter in the mount surface, with a little work you can put the code in there. I used a sharpie to code my CV 21mm f3.5.

Replacing your factory M mount with a cheap eBay mount doesn’t seem like a good idea. If your lens is LTM there are code ready L-M adapters.

Wait, these mounting flanges fit on most or all m-mount lenses? They're all the same? Then making one in ltm would be all one needs to use any M-mount lens on any ltm camera, provided there's an extra millimeter that the ltm mount needs to be smaller?!
Sorry for hijacking the thread.

How do you do the "white" paint? Do you also use sharpie in white?

I’m not sure about newer Ms, but the M9 only needs the black marks. A sharpie worked on the silver mount of my CV lens, but didn’t work on the brass surface of the L-M adapter I coded. Had to use paint.

Thanks for that! I'm pretty sure it will work on the M10. I have a couple, three older lenses and am considering to give it a try.

Sounds good, hope it works out.
