sold a bunch of gear...very close to my x100 budget goal now...
thinking i have a much better chance at getting one locally as the 2 'pro' stores say they have stock coming in at the end of the month and i have to wonder how many locals are really gonna be all that interested in this camera...
but now my feet are getting cold...how much do i really want this thing (need does not even factor into it)...do i want a 50/1.1 more? do i want to save even more $$ and go for an m8? save the cash? buy a new tv? pay bills?
clearly i need a trip to my retail therapist!!

"Fujifilm Japan has announced a shortage of its FinePix X100 large-sensor compact camera and accessories because of higher than expected demand. The company says it is attempting to boost production to meet demand. The latest word from Fujifilm USA is that cameras will be available in the US during the last week of March or first week of April."

I would say - if this is a major investment for you - than do not hurry. Try to get your hands on one (once possible), play with it, go home - think it over. Do not buy 5 minutes after first encounter. Keep in mind, as soon as you buy it, it looses 20 - 30% of its resale value - contrary to used gear.

Hoping for late March. I go on vacation first of April and would love to have the X100 with me.
Save enough for the M8. By that time, the early-adopters of the X-100 will have shaken it out, and supply will catch up with demand. Then, you can buy an M8 or get the X-100 and pay bills.

f/1.1 lens? even not a full stop faster than f/1.4
m8? when there's m9?
save cash to loose it due to inflation?
travel? Jules Verne wrote his amazing books without visiting places he described.
x100? hm.

My Dad would never buy a car just into production. Experience told him that inevitably there would be faults that needed fixing once the car was in 'mass' circulation. Get that feeling about new cameras? And if production is to be pushed up, at what cost? Best to keep your money and wait until all the known and unknown bugs are fixed. By that time the early buyers will be expounding their feelings about the camera.

I think you better not buy anything for awhile.

Dear Brian,
Plus, some of the more rabid early adopters will have tried it; found that it does not confer instant Nirvana; and put it on the second-hand market, so they can put the money towards the next newly advertised, but not yet available, electronic toy they can't afford.
Of course, many will also have found that it's just what they need, but who cares about them? They won't be selling.
Cheers,
R.

I sold enough recently to buy the X100. I did pause to consider it...it is tempting. In the end, I bought another lens for my mamiya 7 and I'm contemplating a second body.
I'm just not ready.

If I were you, I'd hold off and save some money. I mean, you've already got an APS sensor rangefinder that produces great images. Sure, the X100 has a whole bunch of technical hocus pocus, but it also doesn't have interchangeable lenses like your current setup. The X100 seems far too close to your current setup to be worthwhile, IMHO.
If you still feel the need to buy something after a couple of months, save some more and get an M8, as has already been suggested. You've already got the lenses for it.

Cold feet...me too. I just bought a G1
to give me a compact body with a EVF to tide me over while I see how this plays out.

I handled an X100 at the Focus On Imaging in the NEC yesterday for bout 10 minutes. I must say I felt disappointed in its build. Yes it was nice to handle, but I must remember that its not a Leica. It just felt flimsy. In that respect it was disappointing. It handled nicely though.
