Anybody have this? I'm curious about it. I sold my collapsible Fed f/3.5 last month and shouldn't have...now I'm looking at collapsible LTM 50's again.

From everything I read, I'd agree with Raid, though I'd add the collapsible 'Cron too as there was an LTM version of it IIRC. The 50/1.9 was not one of Canon's best efforts and due to rarity tends to demand a much higher price than, say, the Serenar 50/1.8 which is a stellar performer.

I'd say a nice pre-war Elmar myself, but I'd odd that way :)

OK, well, can you point me to a specific lens, like maybe on eBay or in the classifieds? I'm looking at less than 200 bucks here. (In fact I might well end up just paying 30 for an I-22, in the end.) The profusion of Elmars throughout history simple bewilders me.

I think a user Summicron in LTM might be fitting to your requirements. And it's pretty fast for a collapsible lens too. I've seen a few in the region of US$180 to US$220. As recommended above, the Canon 50mm f/1.8 is really good value (albeit not collapsible) and there's one in the classified now for less than US$200. It's really quite compact and not much larger than a collapsed f/2.0 or f/2.8 lens.

Cheers,

I just noticed that KEH has a BGN rated collapsible Summicron 50/2 listed for $299. I realize that's a lot more than you hope to spend; OTOH, there is no better collapsible 50mm lens and it's KEH.

Thanks, all! FYI, this is for my impending Zorki-based fake "Leica Standard"...my other current option, besides a collapsible 50, is to get a super tiny 28, like the Winogrand Canon or the CV Skopar. (One advantage of going for an I-22 would be that I could buy the 28 as well.) This will be pretty exclusively a sunny-16 street camera, with an accessory finder for quick framing...a 28 would be much easier to keep in focus, but you can't have a fake standard without a collapsible 50!

wlewisii, thanks, I've bookmarked those auctions!

There are currently two Canon 50 1.9 on ebay, with BIN between $195-$225.

That's what made me ask! I was watching one.

But I have to confess...I impulsively bought a 25mm Snapshot Skopar on eBay for $250. Not only will it be great for compact, Winograndian street, but I can also use the finder on my LX3. So it looks like the collapsible 50 will have to be FSU.

Thanks! I had been looking at Stephen's site, wishing it was still in production, and lo and behold, one popped up. Plus, I can use it without accessory finder on the R4A, hot dog!!

I manage to get it in on R-D1 and collapse as well.
but there seems to be be some minor scratches in the metal part between the mount and shutter, not quite whether this lens causes it or due to old age of the camera..

any one else tried on R-D1?
