Never saw that tool, looks sweet. I use a machined inside expandable spanner with rings to size properly. We got these from Kodak back when our shop was a Retina warranty station.
Yeah ... I have a lot of Leica tools that I don't even know what they are used for ... Sometimes by dumb luck I figure one of them out. We ended up buying the entire inventory of a Leica repair shop in Canada. I have thousands of Leica tools and parts ..... it will take me the rest of my life to figure out what we purchased. The lens wrench in the photo was a sweet discovery.
Thanks a lot for the picture of the Leica tool. This gave me a hint how to build my own tool. From a 3mm thick and extreme soft rubber plate I cut a round slice which fits in the inner part of the barrel. The other part is a 42mm diameter PVC pipe from a home improvement store. I cut a few teeth in the tube to get a better friction. With this combination the ring could be removed easily without heating up.
3 screws and the stopper can be taken out. Both parts separate when the mark is at the distance of 1,7m.
Now the parts get a ruthenium coating and then I can put the lens together.
