Rob, the film set in Paris was most probably for the Claude Chabrol movie Le sang des autres (Blood of Others) starring Jodie Foster and Sam Neill. So the person with the beard isn't the director but someone else in the crew.

Antti, thanks. That makes sense because I remember someone telling us that it was Chabrol film, but I was certain this picture wasn't him.
