Color-Heliar 75mm on my M6

Just picked up my first non-Leitz lens, a color-heliar 75mm. I am so excited - I have always wanted to use a 75mm, so I decided to start off with this one and see how the focal length works for me.

Now I need the best screw-to-M adapter I can find for my M6.

Any suggestions on where to look for the best deal? I have already read that an original adapter from Leica will be machined correctly whereas a less expensive imitation adapter might have the wrong thickness if I am unlucky.

I have also read that adapters bring up a particular set of framelines, so I have to watch out for that when buying on the net.

Any thoughts or recommendations?

B&H carries adapters made by Leitz (I think) at $59.95. Adorama carries OEM adapters for about $20.00 less.

I would just the CV adapters from Cameraquest. They should work with the CV lenses.

I bought a Leitz adapter for my CV lens, which resulted in the lens not mounting at the correct angle. Then I bought another one, which mounted correctly.

Congrats, I have one and for the money it's a great lens.

I have several CV adapters and none of them allow the lens to fit at the right angle, it doesn't seem to affect the results but it looks off. The only lens I worry about is the 15mm beacause it has a built in scalloped hood, rigid so it doesn't move. When mounted on my camera it sits off to one side and looks like flare could be an issue but not so far.

That's $4.00 more than the VC adapter from CameraQuest. Do you have an URL to the Leitz adapter at B&H ? I searched http://www.bhphotovideo.com but don't know the correct search string ie. could not find what you are talking about.

Does this Leitz adapter have a product number I can use to research?

i just bought 2 adapters from a canadian vender, they are 'marumi' and seem very well made. they fit snugly but not too tight and i assume they will adjust over time. they were 39 bucks each. take with a grain of salt as i am new to the world of adapters myself.

Great lens, frighteningly sharp. The only lens I've had problems getting straight was the CV15mm (is there something about them??)- two lenses and five adapters got it right...

Same thing here with the CV adapters. I don't notice any effect either. Both my 75/2.5 and 35/1.7 are very slightly off-center. For some reason the Summarit LTM sits straight. Probably down to adapter variation, I'd guess.

Good luck with your 75/2.5. I like the FL quite a bit, more than the 90.

Take the back off the CV 12/15/25. You can then rotate the way it reassembles to get it right. I think ther are four positions. Then replace the screw threads.

It has been a long time, but when you remove the screw mount, it will be obvious. Work over a white towel so you don`t loose and screws. They don`t bounce on a towel either.

Once I fixed them, they work with any adapter.

Mentioned in this thread is a problem with the VC screw mount adapter not being at a "right angle". Do you mean a "right angle" rotationally? Of course that woulden't make a difference optically. On my CV adapters there is a cresent shaped cutout that does aliegn at the 12 O'clock position that is slightly different from the markings on the lens. I never noticed it before, as it is very slight, maybe even intentional (maybe for fine tuning the backfocus of the individual lens).
Or do you mean the lens is not at a right angle coaxially? This would lead to severe optical problems similar to decentering of an optical element. Any adapter that showed this fault would be unnacceptable. My VC adapters have always worked flawlessly.

I measured both my CV and original Leica adapters with a micrometer. They were the same.

Leica lenses are designed to have infinity at 11:00 for better visability with finders mounted. It will not effect focus.

Thanks. They are not listing the needed adapter any at the moment, however.

I subsequently found a used leica adapter that brings up the 50 framelines on an M2 or M3. Will this adapter also bring up the 50/75mm framelines on an M6-classic?

According to Cameraquest...Yes!

"Most, but not all, of the Leitz adapters are engraved "Leitz." They are also labeled for their particular frameline. Earlier adapters made for the M3 might be labeled only 50 or 90 or 135. Rest assured they will also bring up the later 50/75, 90/28, 135/35 combinations on your M6."
