I have a tiny Color Skopar 28mm. Very nice object. Used few times (only film). Do you know any review of it? Any experience?

I've had one of these for about ten years. The lens has its advantages but it has its downsides too. It's very well built indeed, very solid, as good as a Leica and better than a ZI in my opinion and it's very compact. For its size it handles beautifully. It's also pretty sharp but not as sharp at wider apertures as my 28mm M Hexanon or Ultron.

Now we come to the contentious bit! I have used the lens extensively over a number of years and personally I don't like the way it draws as much as I do the Hexanon or Ultron. It's got what I think of as a 'lensy' look, kind of taught and wiry rather than relaxed when compared to the Ultron or Hexanon. Photos with this lens don't look distorted but there's something about the drawing that isn't quite right to me. You don't notice this in every photo but when you do, you do. I wouldn't want to get rid of it because I've taken many of my best photos with it and it's a very convenient lens to have but, leaving aside the limitation of a maximum aperture of f3.5, I wouldn't want it as my only 28mm.

It is a superb little lens, small, made from brass not alloy, and at like for like apertures it is as sharp as a 28mm Summicron up to f/11, and sharper in the corners at f/3.5 - f/4. It doesn't quite have the richness of tone and colour that a Summicron exhibits, but that is really being picky, it is just different, not better or worse, and for me it comes into its own in situations when colour is irrelevant like reportage style B&W film work. I wouldn't have believed how good it is if not for an inspired punt on eBay, thinking it would be good for my IIIf, but now it is mostly used on an MM or M.

This used to be my favorite lens. It was more or less permanently attached to my R4M. A bit on the slow side, but very sharp. Sadly it, the R4M and the rest of my CV gear are now gone. If I were to buy Some more CV gear this little gem would be on my list of must haves.

I like it enough to have three of them - just in case. One chrome Ltm, one black Ltm and a S-mount for Nikon Rf's. Very compact, very good - a bit of a magic with black/white film too.
Nikon SP, Color Skopar 28mm f3.5 in S-mount. Kodak 5321 (+X movie stock) developed in D96.
