One of my favorites for a number of reasons, color and composition, yes. And the event, Dia des los Muertos (Day of the Dead) at the early morning wholesale flower market in Patzcuaro, Michoacan, MX. Vigils for the dead are common, graveyards are filled with graves covered with flowers and candles and family. The belief is that at midnight the doors of the underworld open and the departed return until dawn. so it is an evening of joy and celebration, and very serious. This is fact for these families. First night, 31 October is when the children return, second night, 1 November, is when the adults return.

And because you asked, a photo of a grave adorned with flowers and candles, tended by family. This is first night when the families enjoy the returning spirits of the children departed.

This fellow was the pitmaster at Jocko's in Nipomo, CA. Best steaks. He started after school when he was 16. He knew how to cook those corn-fed Nebraska beef steaks to a "T". Those are Red Oak coals in the pit. This is Santa Maria country where that's how steaks are done.

There is a local BBQ restaurant that I enjoy. Their motto, emblazoned on their T-shirts: "I didn't climb to the top of the food chain to eat vegetables!". With sincere apologies to vegetarians; I get it, I really do, but...This fellow was the pitmaster at Jocko's in Nipomo, CA. Best steaks. He started after school when he was 16. Jocxko's has the best steaks I have ever eaten. I have eaten steaks there since about '84. Steak for all three meals but over oak coals only for dinner. It is a cowboy joint. There are a lot of chrome bumper hitches in the parking lot.
