Colour cast on slides. Newbie help please

I have a Reflecta RPS 7200 scanner, and Silverfast AI trial. I also have Vuescan, using a Mac with 10.8.

I am getting great results with colour negatives with both programmes, especially Silverfast.

But with colour slides the preview scan has a strong blue green colour cast with both progs.

Vuescan has an option under the "Color" tab to apply Auto levels which eliminates the colour cast with one click, and produces great results on Kodakchrome and Agfa.

But in Silverfast there is no similar option, and removing the colour cast is very difficult and the end result is never as good as Vuescan. However, the Kodakchrome option in Silverfast handles Kodakchromes well (but not as well as Vuescan) but my Agfa slides have the strong cast.

Since Silverfast is supposed to be King of the hill for scanning software, I feel I must be doing something wrong.

Is a strong green/blue cast on slide preview scans normal?

Might my scanner be faulty? I am inclined to think not, because negative scans are so good and at least Kodakchromes work with Silverfast Kodakchrome setting,

Would an IT8 calibration in Silverfast remove the problem?

I tossed Silverfast (even though it came free with several of my scanners) because it has such a perverted menu and command structure that I never found anything in there - but even though I can't remember where, I am dead positive that a auto level function was hidden somewhere inside...

Would an IT8 calibration in Silverfast remove the problem?

If (and only if) that colour cast is not due to expired (or otherwise abused) film, faulty development, or the subject and its illumination. IT8 calibration will eliminate the effects of the film (as specified by the manufacturer) on a standardized test subject under standardized illumination - it cannot do anything about deviations later in the chain.

Silverfast does have an auto correct option "Auto CCR" and also an "Auto" button" but neither has the same effect as the "Auto-levels" option in Vuescan.

In Photoshop there are four autolevels algorithm options, so "auto levels" is not a not simple issue. I have tried adjusting levels manually for each colour in Silverfast without achieving the Vuescan result.

I guess what you say about the IT8 means it is not going to solve my problem.

I should have said that the original slides I am scanning show no obvious ign of fading or cast.

You should post comparison samples over at silverfast. They have a help forum.

By the way: Are you sure there is no "color cast" on the actual slides?
