I think that, beyond modesty, there may be some legitimate reasons for not setting up galleries, the biggest being fears of copyright infringement and work floating around the net. I'm not sure I'm too fond of the "Print View" or "Send as Postcard" options I've seen attached to all photos. Granted, any resulting use would be pretty low resolution, but still, it's possible.

In any event, I plan to establish a gallery as soon as I get to the darkroom and print some images from a rangefinder; most of my present work was taken with a Rolleicord.

Patman: As another new member, I find this a welcoming and friendly environment. And I like that each time I visit there are different shots displayed, so that eventually everyone's work will be seen. If you really want a critique, maybe you could post a thread with links to your gallery and describe what you want people to respond to (subject matter, tone, compostition, etc.).

I have a gallery here and also post my photos in Rate my Photos, I f I didn't post one Nude I probably wouldn't have gotten any response at all!!!

It works on PNet; it works everywhere. It also helps if you're a gal. Because no such thing as gender-bias exists in hobby activities...

Ok this was supposed to be my 2c worth but it has turned out to be $2 worth 😱

When I first started reading this thread, I felt somewhat guilty because I am one of those that doesn't have a gallery here or for that matter on any of the other gallery sites. I then thought some more about it. I don't have a gallery here because I am new to RFs and am still learning about them being a long term SLR user and I felt it would be "cheating" to post SLR photos here. As to other places, I tend to use a camera in several ways. One is as a technical tool to record images for research and a database. For instance I have done a fair amount of railway modelling so I will take photos to record details or paint schemes etc. Another is to record events such as weddings, those tend to be of interest to those who are there. I do also try to go out and capture images for the sake of it. However, I take those for my pleasure and of what I like. As a result the house has a selection of with them. They are on the wall because I like them and am pleased with the result. I tend not to post them because they are for me not for oohhs ans aarrrhs.

I do (time permitting) look at some galleries. When I do, my general interest is along the lines "Oh that's interesting idea, maybe I can try that". It doesn't really cross my mind to be critical because it is not my image so I tend not to post comments. I thought about the comment of judging the value of peoples words by their photos. I think this only has a limited validity. As has been said there are members with super galleries and few words and vice versa. If somebody starts knocking another's gallery and only has poor images in his then this premise would have a great deal of validity but on other matters, I think it is different. There is a certain "artistic" skill which some people have to see a photo. The technical skill in taking it is slightly different and easier to aquire. On the other hand, there are people who may not be as skilled in these areas but can work wonders in the darkroom or have a very good knowledge of the equipment and can do repairs. Fortunately RFF has a very good balance of many talents. For instance the G'man doesn't have a gallery but very many members have benefitted from his wisdom. To that end, I prefer to judge peoples words by what they write rather than what they take pictures of.

Anyway, having said all that and got it off my chest, I remembered that I do have a gallery on my website. So if it makes any difference to my words, it is here http://pentax-manuals.com/gallery/gallery.htm 😛

Looking at pictures is one element in learning to see better, and seeing better is essential to finding and making better pictures. So, scanning through the RFF Gallery (and other pictures too), thinking about what you've seen, should benefit your own pics posted in the gallery!

I like to post encouraging comments in the Gallery... When I find something negative to say, I say it in a positive and helpful way. For instance, saying something like, "Could this photo be improved by doing (whatever)?"

Most of my stuff is over here on Yahoo! Photos, since I do a lot of non-RF shooting that doesn't fit with this site's purpose.

It's probably my self-consciousness at work, but there are a number of very talented photogs here that, frankly, make me feel like a plodding snapshooter at times, so I often feel some pressure to post only my best shots here.

Posting only your best photos is probably a good idea for everyone to follow. No one here is going to see any of my circular file photos. Hey, that might make a fun thread.

I thought there was a box to tick, in the User Control Panel ("UserCP" link above). I can't find it now, but the following line is embedded in my signature

<a href='http://www.rangefinderforum.com/photopost/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=1665'>My Gallery</a>

ppuser=1665 must be me - you would need to substitute your own user number - can anyone help?

If I don't see any photos, they don't have much credibility with me. All talk, no walk.

On the other hand, you don't need to be a chicken to smell a rotten egg.

test...............

awww..just in time for my 100th post..thanks chrisN

yeah i suppose its true about only using rangefinders but i just wanted some pics up asap..
