What about a Canon 50/1.8? The later black/silver version is quite lightweight and compact, the chrome version roughly same size but not as lightweight due to more brass.

Fixcinater, funny i was just thinking about that lens yesterday 🙂 As great as the 50mm summarit is...i just am not 100% gelling with the lens and I think im slowly realizing i prefer non-tabbed lenses 😛 even though i love my 35 cron asph hehe...

I bought the Canon for my CL. Sadly I haven't run film through as my RF window is broken and Peter at CRR seems to have semi-retired.
It balances nicely. Seems to be a long focus throw, trying it just now, with an infinity lock, it felt a little clunky but that is probably a matter of familiarising oneself.

It's a bit longer, but i've considered going back to the zeiss 50mm zm f2 planar. It was actually a pretty solid lens and i'm not sure why i sold it lol...or the 50mm cron is the same size...hmmm...

Have you tried something that size on the CL?
It is very personal and subjective... I love my CL - in fact it's the one I kept after selling my M3 and BP M4 - but I don't like the feel/balance of larger 50mm on there. I think your instinct for a more compact lens is the right one.
