Considering a SL series body

Is that correct that Leica no longer has batteries my by a third party for the M-240? I guess I had better secure some third party batteries for the Q3. They are Q2 batteries but work fine. I know I use a lot of German expressions and one applies here, Leica is like the cow that gives good milk and then kicks over the pail. It is so common, so persistent that it seems deliberate. They must share marketing strategies with Apple.

Leica could end all this tomorrow by adapting an industry standard battery. They are almost adept enough to do that. Perhaps they could hire consultants to help with it.

I am so glad I took Sonnar Brian's caution and stocked up on batteries for the M8/M9. And I have two for the M240. rant/

To the best of my knowledge, there are no third party batteries for the SL series.
There is one for the SL at least - I have bought a spare recently (soon after buying my SL). But they are far from cheap - something well north of $150 including postage AUD IIRC. I will probably buy another spare soon too as the battery that came with my camera must be 10 years old or thereabouts and does tend to drop in power fairly quickly and Iin any event I like to have perhaps 2 spares in hand just in case.

EDIT: Here is the eBay buyer and item for those needing one. I cannot speak for the later cameras in the series.

Crap, you’re right - Google got me again, when I searched for BP-SCL6 Battery it showed me BP-SCL4 generics.

Yes, that is the Q2 battery which works fine in the Q3 except that it has slightly less power and will not allow one video format.

The "Leica" BP-SCL6 is made by Panasonic.

There seems to be a lot of misinformation here, I own both the SL2-S and original SL and interchange all my batteries as though they were the same, because for me they behave identically. Yes there are 3rd party SL batteries that work fine in the SL2 also.
M240 batteries are available, they might just take a while to get. I have three for mine and have never needed a 2nd one in a days shooting, but I don't use the evf much.

It seems that B&H no longer sells the BP-SCL4, the Q2 battery. Nor do they still sell the Kastar third party BP-SCL4 battery. But eBay and Amazon do. OK, is anyone using a Q2 battery in their Q3 or has the latest Leica firmware update stopped that??

As a 66yr old who needs reading glasses and driving glasses I find my M240 the easiest camera to focus that I own. Merging two lines...
I understand there are lots of different eye problems.
I also bought my SL to use with M lenses, but once I tried the Sigma 24mm and 17mm and the 20-60mm Panny, I never used the M lenses on anything bar my M240.
I highly recommend the Leica 24-70mm, I bought mine as part of a kit with the SL2-S with all intention of selling the lens, but it is so good it's the lens I use the most.
I have an S1r but exclusively use it on a tripod with my 28mm leica pc lens for architecture for which it's perfect. I never use any of the buttons or menu, it's set up for one purpose only.
Incidentally I much prefer the SL control layout to the SL2-S but I prefer the SL2-S evf and ibis.
You'll enjoy your new SL2 I'm sure.

I would encourage anyone to try the L-mount system, to have cameras from the Fp, BF, S9, SL's, CL, the Panny's and lenses from sigma, Panasonic and Leica never mind 3rd party lens makers, I find it a wonderful system. Something for everyone. I have sold most of my Nikon and Sony gear to pay for it.

Yes, it is an awesome system. After getting into it with the s1r I sold my GFX 50R and M240 as I was not using them. Recently sold the GR3 and x100f after I got the fp L and stopped using them.

I’m still clinging to my M bodies, I’d like to hold out for a possible future M mount EVF only body - imagine something like a X-E4 put through a Mattel Enlargo machine with controls like a Q2. Who knows if that will ever happen, I’m not getting any younger so a SL2 is a good affordable choice for me right now.

Actually, inspired by a post on DPR I have a better solution that may even be viable - something like a L mount full frame CL (the digital one) because they already have robust M mount support. *That* would make my heart go pitty-pat.

heh. ".. still clinging" to my M bodies" made me smile. ;)

I was thinking how long I’ve had at least one M around - 1982 was my first owned one, I think (I had long term possession of a friend's M4 since 1978 or so) and other than a few year’s absence in the 80s I’ve kept them around. Currently a M6, M-P240 and now something else…

The notion of a digital CL with FF sensor has been around since the CL was released, and I wonder whether Leica has ever really explored building this camera. I would never think of it as an "M with an EVF", personally, but I think a lot of folks might like such a thing. I think I might have mentioned something like that in a recent thread on DPR. ;)
