Contax G 28mm, intermittent focus?

To OP, sorry this is unrelated to your specific issue but Im curious about the, having it past f8 to mount or dismount? Is this in the manual? I have a G1 and G2 and have never done this and I haven't noticed anything. Curious what this could possibly hurt. Thanks

I have just posted a comment on your more recent post re the G1 problems.

If you have the same problem with two lenses now, it seems to me that the issue is with the camera.

You should get it checked out IF you can find a reputable service center, or consider a second body as they are not really expensive in the USA.

My four G1s (like their owner) are now getting somewhat long in the tooth but are used quite regularly and still work very well. When they eventually start giving me problems, however, and they will - well, let's wait and see.

Oop, did I confuse you with another poster? If yes, apologies - it's early here (Indonesia), and I'd not yet had my first coffee du jour...

My main problem with ageing (self and G1s) is a full service will likely cost more than the camera is now worth - back in 2004 or 2005 I had to fork out A$160 just to get the pins fixed on my 45, which was a lot of money for me even then - and the easiest/cheapest remedy for your problem may be to get a new G1 body. Or sell the lens 'as is'.

Sadly, several friends who owned G1s and G2s in the past have opted to bow out of the line due to age-related problems with the cameras. Not so much the lenses, several of which I bought from these people and to this day they go on producing the goods as exceptional images full of unique character.

The 21 is one of the best I have ever used, it has little or no distortion even with verticals in the architecture photography I do. The 21 viewer distorts a lot. Ignore it. Ditto the 28 which of course, has a narrower angle of view but will often save a scene where my 28 Nikons visibly distort.
