Hi All, hope someone can help me locate the battery pack and adapter for the Contax G2. I've check the usual sources: B&H, Adorama, FotoCare, PhotoVillage, National Camera Exch., Keh's and Koh's. Any suggestions or do any of you want to sell them? Thanks,

It's indeed rare to see one on ebay. Why would you need it? Are you shooting in cold, cold clime? I never needed one, even though I was stuck in blizzard for a few days. The CR-2 pack lot of juice.... Just kept the 2 bodies under my jacket. But just in case: I do own one set. The leather envelope is worn out , but its working great, nevertheless. Now; you could try to persuade me to part with it...

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner; up to my ears with work and life in general. The reason I'm interested in this combo is, I've been caught a number of times with spent batteries and can't get cr-2's. I normally carry 6 batteries with me for my G1 & 2 bodies and TLA 200 flash. I've swapped out fresh batteries in the flash to put in one of the cameras and tried to squeeze the last bit of power by using the nearly dead batteries in the flash. Yeah, long recycle times, but...If I have the combo, I can buy AA's anywhere at a reasonable price; I can use rechargeable AA's too. The rechargeable cr2's are terrible. What is the current price of persuasion?

Ooh, well I made a AAA battery grip for the G1 not to long ago for the same reasons (cr2 >$) unfortunately it will not fit the G2 or else I could easily be haggled with 😉

At less than $2/2€ each in bulk amounts (and five to ten years of storage life in them), you could probably hoard a lifetime stash of CR2's for your camera for much less than you'd have to spend on that elusive battery adapter...

And rechargeables are a serious option too, if you only get the right ones. The most widespread ones arguably are useless, being intended for storage buffer applications, with a mere 200mAh and a discharge pattern entirely useless for a intermittent high-power device like a camera or flash. But flashlight vendors (like Ultrafire) also offer regular CR2 drop in replacement high power cells that have 600-800mAh@3V (about 70-90% the capacity of good single use ones) - these need the appropriate 3V charger, and have limited storage life, but if you recharge them after three months even if they were not used, they are fully adequate. Warning: There also are 3.6V (or 3.7V) cells with the same physical dimensions - these are not suitable for the Contax (and their chargers would damage 3V rechargeables, too).

I appreciate and thank you for all the advice. I have a G1 and G2 [all lenses except the 16mm and zoom] so building a AAA or AA grip is a possibility if I were mechanically and electronically inclined. I'll check out Ultrafire. Because of the age of the bodies and really poor photo processing labs, I've been thinking about getting the Techart auto lens adapter for my G lenses, getting the Sony NEX A6000 and putting the G's in a trophy case. Have you heard anything about the Techart auto lens adapter? I understand they're on the third generation and the 21mm needs its wings clipped to fit into the adapter properly; something I'm reluctant to do.

Would you consider using them as manual focus lenses? I use a Kipon adapter to put mine on both the Sony NEX 7 and A7R. The full frame let's you use the full capability of your lenses. I find the the high res sensors work better with manual focus using the built in focus magnifiers since the real useable circle of confusion is considerably less than the 1/30mm used by both autofocus and focus peaking.

Bill, thanks for your suggestion. As you well know, the Zeiss lenses are absolutely wonderful, the contrast, color rendition, sharpness, various types of correctness make them absolutely outstanding despite being made in Japan but to Zeiss specs. Plus they're small and light weight. That's why I want to keep using them. Here's my situation and quandary. I have a Leica M9 with lenses from 21mm thru 135mm (I've owned Leicas since the late 1960's); Canon EOS' 5Dmk2, T2i and two 620's (I've owned Canons since the early 1970's); in addition to my G1 and 2. I learned many years ago, get the right tool for the job. I was considering retiring the G's and trading in the M9 for either the Sony Nex A6000 or Fuji Pro. I hardly use the M9. The new Leica T holds no interest for me. I keep on hearing rumors about a new revised Canon EOS M which would make my Canon L lenses dual purpose but a bit bulky on the revised M body. The Duo TechArt auto lens adapter for the Zeiss lenses is interesting since it retains the auto focusing of the G lenses but is only for the Sony Nex. I'm reluctant to go with any other lens adapter because that puts me back to how the M9 focuses which is why I hardly use it.
