so, all other threads from other forums all seem to lead back to this thread on this forum site. since it's still unclear to me, has a DIY kit ever surfaced for this Contax G-to-Leica M conversion?

Yes, Hawk's Factory made them for the G21, G28, G45 , but last I knew he was sold out. You could contact Hawk via http://www.ebay.com/usr/hawks_factory?ul_noapp=true

I'm selling one of his G 21mm helicoids that I had bought, but changed my mind.

I have a modified Zeiss 45/2 from G to M. It is based on a Hawk's helicoid.
