Hello

My Contax G1 is exhibiting a very strange behavior.

When I turn it on and try to focus using AF, the lens extends all the way out, to its closest focusing distance and gets stuck in that position.

However, i can still hear the "Focusing screw", on the camera, turning.

What i am calling the "focusing screw", is the small protruding, "flat head screwdriver" looking piece, towards the bottom of the Bayonet mount, on the camera.

I can hear it turning endlessly, and yet the lens is not responding, it remains in its most extended position, the close-focus position.

As a matter of fact, the "focus screw" continues turning, even when I shut the camera off.

It only stops when i remove the batteries.

Does anyone here have any inkling of what might be happening?

Thank you all in advance for your help,

Carlos

You may be better off simply buying another body. The first one I bought, for less than $100, has a shutter issue...the camera focuses fine but the shutter will not fire. I contacted TOCAD and they do still fix the G1 but they charge a $175 flat rate. With shipping I'm looking at over $200 all in. I simply purchased another body, again for less than $100. This second one has been just fine and I've used it quite a bit. I love the G1 with the 45mm, a stunning combination. It really is a joy to use once you figure out the focusing system.
