Bought an used G1 on Ebay and really enjoying it. Here is the question. The lens mount has a green tarnish or film. I have the same on one of the lenses.
Questions: where does it come from? any way to remove?
Many thanks!

Is it a tarnish to the actual metal? Or, is a thin layer of green grease? For some reason, the ContaxG lens mounts seem to have some form of green greasy substance appear. It is nothing and you can either wipe it off or ignore it (my choice).
But if you have an actual green tarnish to the metal finish, that is a new one to me. I never saw that on any of my ContaxG lenses or bodies

I've seen this on many a Contax G. It's harmless, just wipe it off.

Mine had the green grease too; not a problem. Beautiful cameras and superb lenses.
Enjoy your's.

Yep, mine too.
Yep, mine too.
Mine had the same thing green gooish stuff on it. At first, the camera could not see the 90mm, after wiping away the goo all is O.K. Just as a precaution, now every time that I change a lens, I take a soft cotton cloth and wipe both the mount ring and the lens mount and contacts. Try not to get any lint or dust inside the camera body, though!

Well-known
If I remember correctly the body frame is some kind of copper alloy, so I guess it is a kind of verdigris, my G2 gets it on the the lens mounting plate on occasion, as noted it just wipes off.

Many thanks to everybody. I was able to wipe it off....Was just afraid of doing this without expert advice.
