An almost new condition Contax G1 with 90 2.8 lens, what would it be a good purchase price. Have any of you had one & wish you would not have sold it?

$350-$400
Top end of that range only if truly "like new".
Don't be put off by comments about ability to focus the 90 with the G1. It's certainly not a problem with my G1.

Hard to tell, as the pricing is a bit subject to irrational ups and downs. When I bought one last year at the time when they were at a all-time low, I paid about 550€ for a white label G1, three lenses and flash, all barely used. Right now, the prices seem to be up again by at least one third, but YMMV, G series prices recently have been subject to a surprising lot of fluctuation (probably following the release cycles of MFT adapters).

The G1, excellent shape, green label, with 90mm Sonnar should set you back at this time $325-425 (on ebay). Silver label should be $30-45 less. Make sure that there's no bleed in LCD screens (most common problem with G1s, G2s). Get the GG=3 hood and GK-54 hood cap if you can as well.

By far the main reason for buying a G1(2) should be the 45mm lens. That thing is legendary and is everything they say it is - amazing!
After you get it sell the 90mm and buy 45mm, without 45mm that system is half wasted.

I agree that the 45mm is just awesome. The colors are amazing and the sharpness will blow you away.

I put a couple of rolls of Reala through my G1 and 45mm lens. Awesome results.

Ditto on 90mm focusing just fine.

Ditto for mine. The 45mm is a legend and the 90mm is just as good. Bad rap early for not focusing with the G1, but it was bogus :bang:. I was given good advice early on about learning the G1's focusing quirks.
Find two objects with hard edges, one about 3 meters and the other about 30 meters distant. Practice focusing on each one both horizontal and vertical. Approach each from both the right and the left until you know where in the focus brackets the cells are located. Since this experiment, the camera has not given me any focus problems, now if it could just tell me when my composition was spot on it would be the perfect camera.

Contax Gs are super cheap right now. I just picked up a G1 for $135. Lenses are not quite as cheap, but it's Zeiss glass, so even at $250-$400 it's a bargain. Looking forward to using this camera.

Every time I take a break from Contax G and return, I enjoy the hell out of it. A few quirks, but a great system.

Yes, although I have both I find myself gravitating toward G2. The action shots get focused faster. In the past, by the time camera focused the lens I missed some shots with G1. But also there's a "different feeling" to G2. And even the manual focusing is easier.i suggest you to guy the g2 instead than the g1.....awesome body & lenses especially 45 & 21 and heliar 15mm
