I have a Contax G2 with the 45/2 and would love to pick up a 90/2.8 to use with the G2 AND my ZI. Is the conversion of the G-lenses to M-mount permanent or is it via adapter? How do I go about converting anyway?

The MS-Optical conversion for the G mount lenses is permanent, although the 90mm 2.8 is not much more expensive than, say, the 90mm lanthar by Voigtlander in LTM with attached M-mount adapter, so it wouldn't hurt to have two (one converted and one standard) to use both systems.

The Contax lenses will work with an adapter for m4/3, NEX, etc which includes a focus wheel on the adapter which manually turns the lenses interior helicoid for manual focus using the screen on the camera.

And I suppose that was my follow-up question...what would be a good longer lens solution in an 85mm (preferably) or 90mm lens that would be a good option? I dislike longer focal lengths, but need them at times to cover the things I need to cover, so I need a lens solution for those situations.

The ZI + 35/2 Biogon is my primary rangefinder setup (I also have a Contax G2 + 45/2 Planar, but don't want the 90/2.8 on the Contax because I want much more quiet operation and self-controlled focusing).

Gotta love Ken.

The conversion has a nasty little pair of tabs that look like they're trying to imitate the big, fat Leica focus tab, but in fact feel more like two separate little pricks crammed inside a bunch of other lens hardware that interferes with the feel of focus.
