Contax G2 Power Problem

This is why I have very few electronic cameras.

With the power switch off the top plate LEDs display "DX" & frame counter.

With the power on "AF" appears, but nothing else happens, even with new batteries.

Any advice? The last thread on this topic I could find was from 2006, so if anyone has sent one of these for repair recently please let me know.

I love my G2, but I need it working!

How do you set the "power on AF"?

The power on switch is on the top right front, it is on or off or with exposure locked.

The AF switch is in the back and for use by your thumb and can be put into 3 positions. it does NOT power the camera up, though.

Do you have a lens on camera when your troubles occur? Film in camera? Explain.

I am halfway through a roll; when I flip the power switch on, "AF" appears in the LED screen on the top left of the camera, where the ISO is. But the shutter release does not work, the viewfinder info LEDs do not appear, nothing else activates. No motor sounds. Pretty dead, except it tells me I am fourteen shots into the roll. I thought it might reset if I removed & replaced the batteries, but no. I'll try calling Essex Camera tomorrow & see if they work on these.

I had a problem similar to this - the film wouldn't advance past frame 32-ish. The only difference was that I was able to rewind the film. Once I had the film out it would work fine - meter, shutter, lens motors all worked, but put in a roll of film and it wouldn't do anything.

It currently in Japan and I'm awaiting an estimate - I'll let you know how I get on.

return the film and put it out - does this work?
try another lens
batteries out for a minimum of 5min

I had a problem like you describe this past weekend. What i did and it worked was clean all of the lens contacts and the contacts inside the camera with a coffee filter, no lent. My 21 2.8 would not work 50% of the time 90 wouldn't focus. Now ever thing is working fine. Shot a lot of Pictures and all except for the ones I screwed up look fine.
