Hello,
I have just recieved a Contax G2 from a highly reputable seller in London. Overall, I am very happy with it, but, I have noticed that there is a small black dot just above and to the right of the centre of the viewfinder. I'm quite sure I can see a tiny speck from the front of the viewfinder also. When you focus your eye on it it looks to be perfectly circular.
Obviously, this would not effect the pictures (would it?) I get but it is a bit annoying.
Should I just stick with it or do you think this is unacceptable?
Does anyone know how to remove this kind of dust or dislodge it? Because I sure don't!

Many thanks in advance!

No it wont affect the picture ;-) To be honest, I'd probably not worry about it. Seems like getting G's serviced is quite hard these days (not many Techs will look at them), and unless it was something critical, I just wouldn't bother. Both my G1 and G2 have 'spots' - never a nice thing to have in a finder but I think you get used to it and forget about it pretty soon. Actually I didn't even realize the G1 had a spot until I read your post and checked it... so thanks!! ;-) ha ha.

Cleaning finders on mechanical RF's are sometimes straight-forward, but I would'nt want to take apart a G...

I've got a little black speck of dust or something in my G2 VF too and a couple of specks in my G1, it does annoy granted but there's not a lot you can do really and as you say it will not affect photos of course. What really annoys me is my 1960 Leica M2's VF is perfect yet my G's are only a few years old. Ah well.

All part of classic camera ownership I guess, these minor little annoyances. :)

Er, if you bought it from Aperture that might be the one I sold them recently. It had a small spot in the viewfinder, just as you described, and I can assure you it works perfectly. If you did but it from them did you also get the Vario Sonnar?

Billy, out of interest (and without stating it) did they offer you a fair price @ Aperture?

Only every time I've offered gear as p/x the prices they offered me were not good at all IMHO. Just wondered if you've had any better luck. :)

Maybe you do not know you can replace the diopter lens for your VF (on the backside). It might be the dust is between the diopter lens and the actual VF.

mpve is right - check the manual and it shows you how to replace the diopter adjustment lens. You will either need a toothpick, or if you have the Contax original strap, it should have the plastic tool attached to it.
