The G2 has two autofocus methods:
- active using infrared
- passive, which just uses two images from two separate lenses
The active mechanism seems to be dead. It really struggles with focusing, especially in poor light or were there is not great contrast
If I cover one active sensor with my finger, it focuses exactly the same
If I cover one passive sensor, the camera will not focus at all
What is likely to be wrong?
Are the parts still available, so that I could get someone to repair it?
Thanks, George

I have no idea what is wrong; even if I do, the camera is so very sophisticated that it better be left to the professionals.
ToCAD America (http://www.tocad.com/) is the official service provider for all Kyocera/ Contax cameras in the States. They still have parts for the G2 as of 2013 and will very likely remain so until January 2015.

Oh I know, I was not proposing opening it up!
Just wondered is anyone had has the same, or a similar problem.
