Hi all.

I'm putting a Contax II back to work. Everything is going well, and in fact I almost finished the work.

My troble is about cocking the shutter. Midway the advance turns very difficult, it's necessary to put some force. As I can understand this happens when the two curtains desengage.

What must I do to solve this?

Thanks a lot in advance!

PS: by the way: how can I measure the speed of the shutter? Is there any simple, easy way to do this? It's my first time going so far with a camera.

Time for CLA! The spring at the bottom of the camera is about to fail. Better have it CLAed now before it tears the ribbons.

To get a rough estimation of the running speeds use audacity. In a relatively silent room trip the shutter recording it with the mic of your computer and measure the time between peaks.

Have you changed the ribbons? are they either too short, or too thick and dragging in the sliders on the curtain? Is the latch between the curtains failing to disengage to allow the upper curtain to keep moving upward after the lower curtain has been raised into place?

For a super quick & easy shutter check from about 1/125 and faster, if you still have a CRT television or monitor around (I keep an old one just for this purpose), you can do this: http://rick_oleson.tripod.com/index-135.html
