Hi all,
In an impulse buy, I have acquired a Contax T. Lovely little camera, just one question...

If I put my eye to the finder, the diamond shaped range finder patch is out of focus, but if I hold my eye a few inches back, the patch looks sharp and diamond shaped. Does this sound like a fault?

I can still align the two images, but the diamond is just a smudge really. According to the focus scale on the lens, the alignment appears correct.

Is this just a little quirk of the Contax T, or should I be contacting the dealer?

Thanks

Garry

I think you need to contact an optometrist. 🙂 Sounds like me without my reading glasses. It seems like something might be out of whack. I don't recall having that issue with my T, but I'll check when I get home later today.

I was just having a look through mine. I wouldn't say it is a razor sharp definition to the edges of the diamond, no. A "Diamond blob" might be a good description. The coincedent images, however, are exceptionally sharp within the diamond blob and easy to focus.

Have fun with it, great little camera (pain to load though).

thegman, I have the same situation as you do with both my Ts. But I wear glasses, and if I take them off then the patch looks sharp again. Since I've never had any problem with focussing, I guess your T is fine. Enjoy! 🙂

That's good to hear, it is indeed a diamond blob. I find it easy to focus too, except for the tiny focus ring of course. It's a small price to pay for real range finder focusing on a camera this small though. Thanks for the help to all!

"Diamond blob" is an apt description (I have three). Unlike that of Leica M, the T's patch edge cannot be used as a split-image rangefinder. It's a good focussing device nonetheless.
