I just remembered a crazy pipe dream I had when these were still new - what if you removed the pop-up flash and replaced it with a pop-up OVF ala Sony’s pop-up EVFs? These days it could probably be done easier with 3D printing.
@Sonnar Brian , up to a challenge?
I thought the notion was to put an OVF into the flash area, not an EVF.
Likely more feasible to do that with the X1 as the X2 went to an articulated flash mount ...

Although, I have to say: I find the little flash unit very useful to provide a small amount of fill light on very contrasty, sunny days.
I'm also not sure how one would fit optics anywhere near the quality of the Leica 36mm Brightline finder in that space.
I have the Olympus EVF that works on the X2 ... It's too large to fit in the flash receptacle area as well.
I've walked around with both the X1 and X2 each for a session now, configured with no accessories, with the OVF, with the EVF (X2), with the grip (with/without either finder, both bodies). By and large, with the grip and without any strap, and with the
option of fitting an OVF for some shots seems to work best for me. The EVF is more useful in a fairly rare moment only.
I've found one fault with my X1, which I presume is isolated to my camera: when I change the battery, I have to reset the date and time. All other settings are saved, but date and time are lost. It probably needs a new capacitor or something like that; it's a very minor annoyance.
