Frank, if no one has mentioned it yet, I highly recommend Rico Pfirstinger's books on each of the Fuji models. I had the book on the X-Pro1, and now the X-T1 'tips' book. Very well written and provide a lot of shortcuts to valuable information about the camera's operation and use.

Read the manual.
I also recommend Pfirstinger's book.
Give it the same amount of time that you gave to perfecting your film processing skills (if you want that same level of expertise).
Same as anything else . . . take a "shortcut" through the woods and no one knows where you'll end up.

I use an ipad daily, but for the updated firmware I have to use a stupid windows 8 netbook. It won't download the firmware update. The next computer will be a Mac!

When I go to my local pro lab, I'm the oldest guy there. It's filled with twenty-somethings . It's digital users that tend to be the oldsters these days. Young people are either into film or using their phone cams.

PS: as someone who worked with digital imaging for over a decade, and only discovered film 5 years ago - the OP made a big mistake. 😉

hmm. I've been doing photography since 1963, bought my first "real" digital camera in 2002. That's what, nearly forty years exclusively with film?

I love digital capture just as much as I love film capture. They're two different mediums through which to extend the enjoyment of photography. Neither is a mistake. Either that, or I just spent a lot of money for a Nikon F6, or a Leica MM246, unnecessarily ... 🙂

That seems to be where a lot of manufacturers put it, to keep customers safe from using it inadvertently. Olympus is one of the few that puts it first thing on the first menu, where it ought to be IMO. 🙂

.. just treat it like a camera loaded with slide film, say CT21 or so, and shoot raw. That way you won't blow too much of the highlights and in the future you'll still have all the image to reprocess as your skills improve

I've been playing with a d70 for a while now (in secret) and your passing over to the dark side is just one more barrier removed from my acquisition of a serious one of the buggers

Well, I just may leave the firmware at version 2.0 because updating to ver.3 means the wifi transfer of photos to ipad is disabled. Based of what I've read.

I am not aware any Fujifilm firmware updates that remove functionality.

However there is confusion between iPad apps. There is an app for transfer only and there is an app for remote/liveview operation and transfer.

I guess it's possible the most recent camera firmware may require an iOS upgrade for transfer compatibility.

Yes, Willie is correct. You must have the latest iOS for everything to function properly. I transfer regularly from my X100T to my iPhone 6.

I won't be giving up on b+w film and wet printing though.

These cameras resell very well if you scavenge for a good deal up front.

I am an instructor and user on eBay many years now.

I purchased a very nice low count X-E1 with the kit 18-55 Zoom lens. I used it for three months and forced myself to use it often and hard. I came to the conclusion I wanted the faster focus of the X-E2.

So I listed the kit on eBay separately.... increased market interest for body and lens separately.. very common on eBay...break it up.... more people looking for pieces, not whole kits because some buyers are looking for one piece.

This has been a common practice for me.. one of my rules is to buy kits and sell the components separately..... Have made much money this way.

Bottom line on the X-E1 kit... Used it for three months. Then sold the body and lens separately. Net loss, after including shipping.... $25 on both pieces from the original kit purchase body and lens together.

Try to rent a similar camera for three months. Step up and buy it! Camera rentals are incredibly stupid from an economic standpoint. Most of us don't have a way to write off rentals for personal use. In this case I would anticipate a three month rental to cost hundreds of dollars, NON recoverable.

I do this over and over. Keeps my "trial" costs way down.

Now looking for a near mint X-E2. Hoping to keep it for longer, but If I want out at minimal cost for a three month trial, I am confident it is possible. The Fuji X camera's are hot at this time, plenty of inventory on eBay, by just "watching" the deals.

Oh, yes and I never buy from a seller less than 200 feedbacks over a longer period of time, and a string of feedback from some time ago to current....AND never less than 99.5% positive, and look at all negative feedback.

It just works for me. I am buying late, minor used good equipment from highranking sellers, and my outlay is minimal unless I keep a camera for 6 months or more....like a keeper/user.

eBay is the Way!!!
