Read the rules and user agreement - it sounds like a good contest for people who wish to be forced to sell their work very cheaply and have it posted on the internet where it can be ripped off by others. Just my 2 cents....

If you want an M4-p, why not just cough up the $600-$900 bucks and buy one.

I so feel your pain. Some site is trying to generate saleable content by offering something worth far more than you'll ever make from the site. Those *******s, trying to entice fools into posting images on the internet where they can be stolen!!! What sane person would ever post a picture of their cat that could be STOLEN!!!! and put to nefarious use by any unscrupulous viewer! I hope anyone who enters gets killed in a nasty tractor-trailer accident, and has their images of their cat stolen off the internet to boot :/

I was trying to exaggerate on the silly side and either fell short or overshot my mark, I can't tell 🙂

Either way, yes, the site makes certain demands on the submitted photos. But for someone who has no portfolio, the prize is more than just the dollar value of the kit.

This is a good point. While there are plenty of legitimate and fair competitions or prize draws out there, it's foolish to sumbit your work blindly. You should always ask yourself "Cui bono?".

In this case, the deal seems quite fair to the artists. Here's their bit on copyright:

Since the artist sets the price for prints or cards as a function of the mark-up on the base price, this isn't so much like one of those stock photography outlets who persistently devalue people's work. Have a look at this article to see what I'm talking about:

I wonder, perhaps, if you wanted to enter the Red Bubble competition you could simply set a crazily high price for the photo. That way you could be sure nobody would buy it but you'd still be in the running. Of course there could be a price cap that isn't metioned in the FAQ.

This is entirely a matter of perception, but in saying "You just sound like a fool..." you came across as rather rude, whatever your intention.
