Contre Jour, is it the thinking mans' bokeh?

how about contre jour and bokeh?

nice shot

nice shot

I like the top 1/3rd, if I knew what the bottom fence thing was, I might like it more, but it confuses me ...

Also interesting that you shoot the sun, like I do, few people around here do, because they have CV or Zeiss glass that just can't handle it.

Great photo.

... or did I just screw-up the exposure?

As with bokeh it adds drama to an otherwise boring photo but it allows the use of slower lenses, gives one more to look at when tired of the gimmick and one gets more exercise walking round the subject ...

that photo is at sunrise btw, I don't do sunsets

Sort of missing the point .... the whole point of being different to bokeh is that they don't need that blurry background, the separation of subject and ground is achieved with strong contrast or silhouette

Hmmm. This very cool thread seems to have lost it's mo ...

ah, I like that! "contre nuit" I guess.

on a sorta related note - I liked this quote from an interview with Tina Fey (of 30 Rock etc fame), who said What I've come to realize is that when people say "The thinking man's whatever " - there's no such thing. The thinking man also wants to f*** Megan Fox.

it was coined by Frank Muir I think, he described Joan Bakewell as "the thinking man's bit of crumpet" ... she's not managed to shake off 40 years on
