Stephen - looks like you started with a black 90mm? Clever chap - looks great on the black M. How are the images?

I've taken a few shots. The pictures look very similar to the Nikkor 8.5cm f/2 but with a slightly more modern feel. Otherwise, center is very sharp. Focuses dead on even at close distances. Another great lens to keep.

I am exited about the possibility of getting as loaners the 28mm and the 45mm lenses in Leica mount! It happened that today I received the G1 with the 28mm, 45mm, and the 90mm lenses. I will be able to compare the feel for the lenses.

I like your pics with the 90 sonnar. How's the mechanical feel of the adapted lens ? I see MS Optical adapts them in a fashion similar to Nikon S lens. I presume the whole lens ( including aperture ring ) rotates as u focus the lens ?

I find turning the aperture quite easily and accidentally when holding the lens. When attached to the camera, this is not the case, and handling is easy because it is so light. I'm really surprised that it is so sharp even when near focusing, and it has a slightly more modern look than the Nikkor 8.5cm.

Yes, the lens rotates (including the aperture) when focusing.

oh.... u set my wallet tingling🙂 I see the point of adding a G 90mm Sonnar. Finding it hard to justify the rest of the Gs when ZMs carry them in the current RF lineup.
There will soon be comparisons of ZM and G-mount conversions. It is my opinion the G lenses are better... 😉

I want to see if the Contax G M-mount lenses are more convenient to use than the G lenses on the G1 or G2, plus I want to see if the G M-mount lenses give different looking images than the ZM lenses. Since several people will compare such lenses, it will be fun to go over the reviews once they are in.
Raid, the main issues with the G1/G2 are the viewfinder and focusing. I owned a G1 in the mid-90s with 3 lenses, and loved the quality of the photographs but it was finicky in terms of focus.

I know this fact, and now it is the time to ask the question what the many G1 users could do as a next step.
1. [edited] Keep the G1 system as is and hope for the best each time they take photos. It seems that G2 users are happy with their system.
2. Sell off the G1/G2 system and get Zeiss ZM lenses to work on Leica type cameras.
3. Convert G1/G2 lenses into M lenses.
It is not clear to me yet which option is the most practical and most rewarding.
The cost of converting the G1/G2 lenses should also cover the loss in selling a system at a low market value. If each conversion costs $500 plus, and then you add the "loss" due to selling off the cameras, the final cost is similar to buying new ZM lenses, assuming you already have a Leica type camera. Options 2 and 3 seem to be of a similar cost. Which is the better ?

I personally do not need to hope ever with my G2 re focus. Period. Nor does anybody else:
I did learn, however, and in contrast to you, or so it appears, to use the focus system of the G2 as it was designed: I think focusing a G2 is idiot-proof as it is and I, as an idiot use it without thinking and without errors. But I do know now and did have to learn how to preset focus, selective focus in manual focus, and auto focus where etc from PRACTICE and learning for days and weeks.
If your only option with Zeiss G glass is to go to Leica mounts, you must be a slow learner here. The G system is so different , I agree, but anyone can learn to take sharp in-focus pics with it. That is my thesis.
Of course, as they say: every rule has its exceptions, ok. And I am sorry for you that you did not learn to follow what is all built-in and learnable.

I should have limited the first option to G1 systems. It was not meant to be biased sounding. I just bought a G1 system and the camera and lenses arrived yesterday in the mail. I don't think that I am a slow learner. 😀 I still have to use the camera. Comments of G2 users often mention the shortcomings of the G1.

Anybody else have G conversions to show off? The 21 is tempting, as I find it vastly outperforms the ZM. That said, I do like the handling of the G21 on the G2.

What makes you find the G-M 21mm lens better than the ZM 21mm lens? I have neither one.
