I've seen some pretty crazy adaptations of Cine lenses to M mount cameras, along with people converting Zeiss Contax SLR lenses to Canon EOS mount.
So the question is, has it been done with any G lenses? The Zeiss 45 Planar is an amazing lens, but it's a real shame it can only be used on G series camera's only. Has anyone ever heard of an G to M mount conversion, or if it can even be done?
Thanks for any help,
-Tim

I saw a thread where some guy did a 90 G adapted to his Canon EOS mount. It was very impressive but very complicated to do. The link seems dead now or I'd post it. Never saw it done to an M-mount though. Agree with you about the 45 Planar. Perhaps my favorite overall lens.

Zoerk.
(No, that really is the name of the company. Google it: www.zoerk.de.)
The only conversion of his I tried was the 16mm Hologon.
Cheers,

A modified 16 is available on ebay about once a month or so- if I'm not mistaken that lens was manual focus? (never had that one)

How would you focus?

Hmm. Well, as a happy G1 owner, is it possible to convert M-mount lenses to G?

The guy who adapted the 90 Sonnar G to EOS mount sort of added and adapted a focusing ring and it worked. Not sure if it focused at infinity but his closer photos were simply amazing. Darn, I wish that link still worked, still searching Google to see if it's posted elsewhere....

Actually, that's a dumb question. Of course you couldn't, how could you focus them?

Scale focus, I guess.

As nice as the G glass is, much of the line is duplicated in the ZM range, so for the 28, 35 and even the 45 (with a 50) I'd suspect a ZM would be cheaper, and easier in use. The 90 is the real gem in the G line, and even in a new mount would certainly be cheaper and much lighter than the ZM85.

Actually I just remembered I have Contax-made an adapter that allows me to use my manual focus Contax SLR lenses on my G2. I can't remember how I focus though. I think the MF function on the G works....
I'll dig it out this afternoon...

Slightly OT but here's a guy who seems to have made himself a digital Contax G:

Japanese they do.
Japanese they do.
Here is a Chinese forum talking about several G lens convert to M-mount by a Japanese optic company
http://www.mobile01.com/topicdetail.php?f=255&t=463181
Although they mentioned the cost is pretty high, but still cheaper to purchase a M-lens such as the 21mm. Although the forum is Chinese, but there are a lot of pictures you can see what it looks like after the convertion, best of all, it comes with ring of depth of field, it helps a lot when you maually focus.

Well, I think Zen-Shooter had mentioned it previously. It is this company. And I believe this is the only company in the world that change G lens into M mount.

Well, what I will be more interested is, is there any one changing the M lens into G mount?

Monte, exactly. That is what I'm interested too. If there is any M-lens would mount to my G1 & G2, it is gonna be great.

Digging deeper into that forum, I found a website where this guy has converted all the G mount lenses to M mount, among others!

This guy makes me jealous. If only the 45 f2 conversion becomes all the more tempting!
Cheers,

Unless it is for the fun and wow factor, the ZM series uses the same design, but in M mount.
