What are the recommended settings for the 5000 ED for scanning black & white negative? With my v700 I liked to scan to TIFF @ 4800 DPI with no in-scanner curves, etc. That is I want the raw scanner data to post-process in PS, or Lightroom. How do I get the same with the 5000 ED? It seems that selecting negative, gray scale with 16 bit and X'ing out the curves and such does not do this. I scanned to a positive and inverted, and that got a better result, but that seems like a pain.

How do you guys handle this?

16-bit linear

16-bit linear

In my workflow, I use Vuescan and scan to 16-bit linear TIFF or DNG files. Transparencies and negatives have different workflows for me:
1. Transparencies
- scan with Vuescan to DNG file
- process DNG with Camera RAW (or Lightroom)

2. Negatives
- scan with Vuescan to 16-bit linear, either mono (for BW) or RBG (for color neg)
- process the RAW TIFF with ColorNeg, a plug-in for Photoshop

With this workflow, scanning is the fastest, and the most accurate. The processing is done inside Photoshop, which is the best software for post processing, obviously.

As far as resolution is concerned, I scan most 35mm frames at 2000 dpi, while I use 4000 dpi only for the super keepers

Hope that helps
