Coolscan 9000 problem

Same with mine. All this means it works normally.

This is take from the Nikon website:

All Nikon film scanners, (and many other devices), will perform what is known as a P.O.S.T. (Power On Self Test) while starting up. The Green LED on the front of the scanner will flash at a rate of 1hz (one flash per second), until either coming on steady and solid (indicating ready, no problem), or flashing rapidly (indicating a hardware error).

Rapidly flashing LED

If your scanner LED flashes rapidly for a prolonged period of time during its initial start up period, then you will need to test a little further.

Remove any film and film adapter from your scanner.
Shut off your computer and Nikon film scanner, and disconnect the USB or Firewire cable from the scanner.
Switch on the scanner, while disconnected from the computer, and watch the green LED flash. If it flashes normally then then comes on solid and steady, we know the problem is with the connection to the computer, or it could be related to a conflict with another device currently connected to the computer.
If the scanner flashes rapidly during this startup period, then we know this is a hardware problem with the scanner itself, and it will need to checked out by a Service Technician.

Could you tell me if your film holder is drawn entirely into the scanner to the point where the holder is no longer visible? Or does the end of the holder stick out of the scanner during the scanning process?

It takes the frame inside by half I think. After I press "multiple frames" - (the button in the right upper corner of the menu where you are choosing the frame size) for the prescan of all frames the whole frame drowns.

Is this what the scanner/film holder should look like during the scanning process?

Or is the film holder supposed to go entirely into the scanner?

It's not unusual for the holder to be sticking out of the scanner. It depends on where the film it's currently scanning lays.

Thank you so much for this reply. Based on your reply, I'm pretty sure I fixed the scanner. I took it apart and taped two separated pieces back together near the motor and it seems to work fine now. I have no idea how they got separated but after taking the scanner apart and watching all the parts move as I turned it on, I could see that this was the problem. It now scans great. I'm so grateful I didn't send it to Nikon.
