Since, unlike flatbed scanners, most film scanners neither have nor require a locking mechanism for transport, the big deal here is proper padding around the unit (bubble wrap securely wrapped, then taped, completely around the unit) inside a decent cardboard box with several "FRAGILE" stickers on it. Depending on how loosely the bubble-wrapped scanner fits in a given box, additional "loose" padding (crumpled newspapers, "peanut pack", etc.) may be needed...you don't want the thing moving around much in the box after you've sealed it. Also make sure the package is insured for an appropriate amount; I believe that with UPS, packages are automatically insured up to around a few hundred, which might cover the replacement value of the LS-50, but check it out rather than take my word for it.
Tip: if any form of "peanut pack" is used in the box, I would place the scanner in a sealable plastic bag before bubble-wrapping it, to prevent any loose particles from getting into the scanner's guts. Put a small silica gel pack in the bag to keep moisture from accumulating.
