Copy or the real thing

I'm tracking this too.
The number certainly checks out I think but I can't believe that the paintwork hasn't been a bit more than touched up.

A few things:

If you're a purist the shutter button collar is (as a lot of them always are) missing - easy to get another from someone like Malcolm Taylor, and very inexpensive.

Based on what the seller says, I'd also factor in the cost of a full service on it.

A flash sync plug has been added to it at some stage - which can devalue it (again depending on whether you're a purist, collector or user).

its no fake but the flash sync on the back does not seem original, anyhow its an after factory addition. Further the Leica logo on top is a bit damaged: with a Leica every scratch counts if discussing its value!

On the other hand, a black paint 1932 (first batch) Leica II is one of the more wanted ltm leica's.

I wanted one however with an original Leitz flash synchronization added, so recently ended up with an original factory conversion made in the early fifties (see this thread: http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=91238). With fully synchronized flash you can use old bulbs of different makes......and you want to use them, don't you ;-)

It certainly is original except for the flash. I picked up it younger sibling serial #79XXX last summer at a flea market. With Summar, filters, hoods, bellows, close focus attachment, visor viewfinder and case for....drum roll....$40.

Looks real. The Russian copy has a yellow filter built into the RF, the original does not. So if you get it and it has a yellow superimposed image...it was a fake.

It has to have been repainted at some stage surely ... the brassing on the wind knob would suggest more wear on the paint if it hadn't.

I picked one of these up in similar or better condition for $200.00 because it had a flash sync on the front of the camera. Yuoxin filled the hole from the sync and recovered it for me when he CLA'd it a couple of years ago. They're a sweet camera and I surely don't use mine often enough.
