Correct Hood for Canon 50mm F1.8 Serenar

What is the correct hood for a Canon serenat 50mm F1.8 lens.

Any for sale ?

There's three different "correct" ones.

For the earlier chrome lens, there's a round one, which is marked for 50/1.8, 35/2.8, and 35/3.2 lenses. There's a rectangular one, which is vented for the viewfinder, typically marked for the same three lenses. It is rarer than the round one.

For the later black/chrome lens, there's the S-42 hood.

All of these hoods have Series VI sized threads on the back of them, and hopefully will come with a proper adapter.

The round one is usually found/used with a 40mm screw-in to Series VI adapter. The rectangular one is usually found/used with a 42mm slip-on to Series VI adapter. The S-42 normally comes with a 42mm screw-clamp to Series VI adapter.

I strongly prefer the rectangular one, since it doesn't block the viewfinder at all on a bottom-load Canon, or on a later Canon like the 7s.

Oh, the first round one is found in chrome (more common) or black. The rectangular one is black, as is the S-42.

Judging by the date of the original post I put the images in (May '07) it was before I picked up my EOS 400D so it was probably with my Canon SD200 2MP Digital ELPH. The uncorrected white balance (shot under fluorescent) also would make me lean towards the point-and-shoot.

The gear is rather pristine, I inherited from my father who bought it whilst stationed in Korea in '54.

Ahhhh so this is the camera that took those beautiful photos in that other thread - nice! 🙂

Well that`s a pretty good job with a 2mp digital, looks great for close up work, just by the look of the photo, if that gear was for sale I would have bought it in a second 😀

I`m selling my spare IIIF2 now and it`s near mint/very clean, these early Canon`s just don`t look great they take fantastic photos, I use my other IIF2 as much as my Leica IIIC`s
