I have a 50mm LTM Summicron on my IIIG and would like to get the period correct hood for it.
What is the correct hood for this lens?

I believe the IROOA is the correct one.

I believe that this is the appropriate hood- ebay auction is useful for the pictures provided. I sold one of these recently with a screw-mount summicron.

I believe the earliest hood was the barn-door type originally designed for the Summitar (SOOPD), but which also clips onto the collapsible Summicron. I have one marked Summitar Summicron. The round non-vented clip on hoods (chrome retaining ring holding circular black flared hood) ITDOO & IROOA came later. Sorry no pictures; at work

Your lens is very early 1954, so it was the barn-door type originally designed for the Summitar (SOOFM) the ITDOO came 1956, but I would go for this!..the IROOA came 1959, looks very fine and it is not so expensive like the ITDOO !

Jan is right: the SOOFM. I have that hood for a collapsible M Summicron.

Yes, it is a custom Randall #14 made for me in 1966. Now it's just a fine letter opener.

The cutouts in the barn door hood (SOOFM) are optimized for screwmount Leicas. They are the most effective hoods made for the lens. But as for the looks and ergonomics of them, some folks like them, some folks hate them. I like them.
With the finder so close to the lens on a screwmount Leica, you're going to lose a chunk of the image to any round hood. Not so with the SOOFM.
