I really like my 60 Elmarit R for macro..
Less than thrilled at infinity though..and flare performance..
Its the only R lens I own..
No need for any other macro..
As of now...lol..

Oh well, to complete (for the photos I shoot) the R lenses I just bought an 80mm Summilux f1.4 to add to the 35 and 50mm Crons, all 3 cams. I find 90mm just a little long and having researched images thought the Summilux 80 was stunning.

80mm Summilux arrived today, and it gives me the opportunity to test out the R7 I bought last week. Of course, it's bright and sunny, I only have Portra 400 and it's too bright to use f1.4, and I don't have an ND filter in the size. More gear needed!
It's smaller than the 90mm Summicron v1 for M - doubly brilliant.

I've shot a lot of film with R glass. Best 'bang for the buck' are the normal primes -- 35mm Elmarit (avoid version 1), 50mm Summicron, 60mm Elmarit and 90mm Elmarit. With a little shopping these can still be obtained at relative bargains. Good optics with less weight.

I did find a 35-70/3.5 (first version) at a decent price, this should get me to the point of deciding whether the R8 is a long term keeper or not. I’ll keep watching for a 50/2, though. Thanks all!

Ken, there are three 35-70mm R lenses. There is a Vario-Elmar-R f/3.5; a Vario-Elmar-R f/4; and a Vario-Elmarit-R ASPH f/2.8. Are you interested in a particular one? I have all the Erwin Puts write-ups and I could look it up for you.
I’m sorry, I missed this the first time. The E60 f/3.5 version is the one of interest.

Forgot to mention that the 21mm Super Angulon is a hell of sight cheaper in R than M

Summilux arrived, tested it on the R7 and just started scanning. Ok, all pretty much shot wide open, so the occasional missed focus, but when it's on, it's just stunning.

I bought an R9 a few days ago on a lark and a pittance, and was also wondering what glass to mate with it, considering the well-regarded 35-70 ƒ/4 or 35 Summicron v.2; both hover around US$1000 in top condition.
In the end, the 2 extra stops were more critical for use on film than the flexibility of the zoom.

I have read many good things on the Summicron 50 R.

It's as much the rendering of the Summicron R I love (in this case the 50mm shot wide open at f2, but the 35mm is equally lovely).
