Up here in Canada it costs something close to $10 from Canada Post to send 2 rolls of film from one small city in Ontario to Toronto, to be developed. Then add the processing cost and return postage and we're getting into silly territory.
I will be in the USA next week. My American friends: how much does it typically cost you in postage to send 2 or 3 cannisters of 35mm film to a lab? I am considering just carrying my film with me and mailing it to a US lab from within the US.
thanks,

thanks,
The lab I use, The Darkroom in San Clemente CA, provides postage-paid envelopes for sending the film to them and charges $4.99 for sending hte negs and CD back.
If you are sending elsewhere, the best option in my mind is the USPS small flat rate box (free box at any post office), which is around $6 and includes tracking.

I second the small flat rate box as well. It's under $6 USD and can hold quite a few rolls easily, arrives very quickly and as Gumby said it includes tracking.

Process your own or buy a digital camera.
A flat rate box will probably hold 12 rolls. Disaster if it gets lost or damaged or some clown decides it needs to be x rayed for security.

I send from Canada to the US and it generally costs me about $11/10 rolls of 135. Incl. tax.
I send it to The Darkroom in California, in a padded envelope:

Take a look at their price list. They charge $10 return to Canada.
Your problem is sending only 2-3 rolls. Not cost effective then.
Mail order is the new (old) reality for roll film.
