The aperture doesn't go from f1.7 to f2.8 when close focusing on the Leica X113? I could see that person making loads of cash if s/he created it and Leica doesn't do so.
It might perform poorly.... unfortunately I don't know how to read MTF charts and I don't know where I could find the charts for the X113's summilux. What if it didn't perform poorly? 😀

I doubt very much that Leica would have gone to the trouble of creating a routine that modified the aperture for close focus distances if they didn't think it improved the camera's performance in a significant way.
Regardless, I certainly wouldn't install firmware from anyone other than Leica on my X. It's a wonderful performer with a superb lens just the way they made it. I trust Leica to know what they're doing. If I didnt, why would I buy their products?
I agree with Godfrey, why the heck would Leica cause so much angst in the community by making the camera do something it didn't need to do?
